Published by the Alberta Canola Producers' Commission, the Chase "Superman" Duffy comics chronicle the adventures of a young track and field athlete as he navigates his way around his grandfather's Alberta farm to learn about rapeseed, canola, the transition from one seed to another, and the innovators behind the country's only true Canadian-made crop.
Written and illustrated for 8 to 11-year-olds, the stories are part historical fact, part fantasy, relying on a child's belief in "perhaps."
Note: Teachers, please contact the Alberta Canola Producers Commission for information about how these books link to curriculum, and how you can order them for your school.
STORYSCAPES STUDY GUIDE — GRADE 5
This StoryScapes mini-unit is based on an adaptation of the Storyline strategy, a method that encourages students to build and explore understandings and deepen their appreciation of topics or concepts. It is based on the basic elements of story, a structure familiar and comfortable to children. Storyline strategy integrates literacy skills and helps children apply their learning in authentic and self-directed contexts.
For Grade 5, the Storyscapes study guide is an excellent complement to the Chase Duffy adventure books.

In this presentation, we look at how comics do more than make kids laugh.
