OVERDRIVE finalThere’s still five and a half months before my YA novel OVERDRIVE drops—but I couldn’t pass up the chance to spend a month talking about it.

Fast cars, cute guys, a kick-ass protagonist, and the hot Vegas sun—OVERDRIVE is a culmination of all my favorite things. Which is why for this year’s blogging challenge, I am doing the A to Z of OVERDRIVE. (I know, you're shocked!)

Not familiar with the A to Z Blogging Challenge? Get the full details here. And then buckle up because you’re in for one hell of a fun ride.

P.S. Comment on or share the posts throughout the month for a chance to WIN an advanced reader copy of OVERDRIVE!

Overdrive JKT

Without further (boring) pre-amble, here's the synopsis for OVERDRIVE, which launches Sept. 13, 2016 from Simon Pulse. I could not be more excited about this book!

"Gone in Sixty Seconds meets Heist Society in this edgy novel about a crack team of teenage criminals on a mission to learn to trust, build a life, and steal a wish list of exotic cars.

Jules Parish has screwed up.

After three years of boosting cars, she got caught. She’s too good to get caught, but she let her (ex)-boyfriend talk her into a questionable job. And now she and her little sister, Emma, will be kicked out of their foster home, left to survive on the unforgiving streets of Las Vegas alone.

Unless.

Eccentric, wealthy Roger Montgomery wants to open up his mansion to Jules and Emma. The only catch? Jules must steal seven of the rarest, most valuable muscle cars in the world…in seven weeks. Even worse, she’s forced to put her trust in three complete strangers to help her do it.

First there’s Chelsea, the gorgeous redhead with a sharp tongue and love for picking locks. Then there’s Mat, who hasn’t met a system he couldn’t hack. And finally there’s the impossibly sexy car thief Nick, whose bad attitude and mysterious past drive Jules crazy.

With nothing in common and everything to lose, can Jules and her amateur crew pull off what could be the biggest car heist in history? Or will things spin out of control faster than a Nevada dust devil?"

Intrigued? You can add it to Goodreads here and even pre-order it here.

Check back tomorrow for a less obvious "P" post as we continue the #AtoZChallenge of OVERDRIVE.

A to Z Challenge: O is for Oars

rowing"O" should really be for Oy! since I'm embarassed to admit that I've dropped the ball on this blog over the past week. But, after a few days spent with family at a funeral for a truly beloved man, I am ready to get back on the blogging wagon and finish up my Tudor-inspired posts for the A to Z Challenge with a bang.

That said, my TRUE "O" word has less to do with historical times, and more to do with my modern re-telling of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII's torrid romance. In this case, "O" is for oars...as in the kind you use for rowing.

If you've been following the blog for the past few weeks, you know that Anne & Henry takes place in Media, WA, a small town bordered by Lake Washington.

The real Henry VIII was athletic and competitive. In lieu of jousting or hunting, "my" Henry is a football quarterback, rides horses, is the student council president, and of course, captains the rowing team. The rowing scene is actually one of my favorites in the book. <grin>

Check back in...erm...a few minutes for my kind-of-Tudor-inspired letter P. And, don't forget to check out the rest of the blogs on A to Z Challenge—you can find the list here!

About my YA Contemporary, ANNE & HENRY—coming from Simon Pulse, Sept. 1, 2015.

Anne
Wild, brazen, mischievous, bewitching
Henry
Driven, haunted, charming, magnetic

Apart, they are bound to destroy themselves. Together, they are bound to destroy each other.

Henry Tudor's life has been mapped out since the day he was born: student president, valedictorian, Harvard Law School, and a stunning political career just like his father's. But ever since the death of Henry's brother—perfect, high-achieving Arthur—his family has been twice as demanding. And now Henry's trapped: forbidden from pursuing a life as an artist or dating any girl who's not Tudor approved.

Then Anne Boleyn crashes into his life.

Anne is wild, brash and outspoken. She is everything Henry is not allowed to be—or to want. But soon Anne is all he can think about. His mother, his friends, and even his girlfriend warn him away, yet his desire for Anne consumes him. Henry is willing to do anything to be with her. But once he has her, their romance could destroy them both.

Inspired by the true story of Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII, Anne & Henry reimagines the intensity, love, and betrayal between one of the most infamous couples of all time.

A to Z Challenge: M is for Medina

Medina

ANNE & HENRY isn't set in England—though, the temptation was certainly there.

Instead, my contemporary re-telling of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII's torrid romance is set in Medina, Washington, a picturesque REAL town bordering Lake Washington, and the home of Bill Gates.

I've never been to Medina, but the pictures of the area are beautiful, there are cameras that record who enters and exits the town (hello, Big Brother!), and the houses are gorgeous.

Aside from the scenery, most of MY Medina is made up—from the Tudor mansion where Anne and Henry first meet to Medina Academy, where the teens go to school, and Henry reigns as Student Council President. There's also an abandoned theatre, a Mom & Pop style diner, and a great coffee shop where I wish I could hang out and write in.

For more about the REAL, picturesque Medina, check out this link.

Back tomorrow with a more traditional Tudor-inspired "N" but in the meantime, check out the rest of the blogs on A to Z Challenge—you can find the list here

A to Z Challenge: L is for Love Letters

IMG 2304a-300x225Henry VIII was a renowned playboy: six wives, countless mistresses—the guy clearly got around.

But the infamous king actually had quite a notorious reputation as a romantic as well, as evidenced in the many love letters he wrote to Anne Boleyn during his (agressive) courtship and in the early months of their relationship.

It doesn't take a scholar to see that, at least on paper, Henry truly loved Anne—until he didn't. The letters are stored at the Vatican, but if you'd like to preview a few of them, check out this link.

I love the idea of such a notorious playboy writing beautiful letters to his love, and so, of course, love letters play a small—but significant—role in ANNE & HENRY.

Tomorrow I'll explore the letter M with a look at some of the cool places Henry and Anne visit in my modern re-telling of their torrid romance. In the meantime, check out the rest of the blogs on A to Z Challenge—you can find the list here

A to Z Challenge: K is for King

crown

When Henry VII died in 1509, a popular, 18-year-old prince, known for his love of hunting and dancing, became King. No one then could predict that Henry VIII would become one of the most famous Kings in English history—nor could they imagine he would be more well known for his exploits with women than anything he did as a ruler.

A good King should be confident, brave and intelligent. Henry could certainly check off those boxes. In fact, during his reign, he became known at the "father of the Royal Navy." When he became King, there were only five royal ships. But by his death, Henry had built a navy of around 50. Henry also built the first naval dock in Britain at Portsmouth, and in 1546, established the Navy Board.

Unfortunately, these successes are overshadowed now, as King Henry VIII is most remembered for his six wives—and, of course, the beheading of Anne Boleyn.

In ANNE & HENRY, Henry also struggles with his "legacy" while trying to crawl out from under his brother's shadow.

Tomorrow we move on to the eetter L, but in the meantime, don't forget to scroll through the rest of the blogs on the A to Z Challenge—you can find the list here
